ABSTRACT

The Khor region south of Iraq. northwest of the Arabian Gulf, is tidal flat, which consist of drainage network. The small channels of this network unit to form larger main channels drain their water into Khor Al-Zubair. One of these channels was chosen after modification as basins for fish-culturing. This study evaluates some factors influencing the production of these basins. The bed is fine clay sediments containing small amount of shell fragments. The area is mechanically unstable due to the high plasticity of the subsurface layer. This is an important characteristic especially for excavation or any other potential earthwork on the banks of the basins. The movement and distribution of water is very limited and not suitable for fish-culture. It leads to some chemical changes that makes a reducing environments.
