Iraq has a good archaeological record and a glorious past. The fertility of the soils in Tigris-Euphrates Plain was attracted the ancient human being to inhabit this land. Therefore, the Mesopotamian Plain has been continuously inhabited for over 5000 years, as indicated by the ancient village ruins discovered northern Iraq is more than 10000 years as well as many caves. Many center of civilization were grow up; Ur, Kish, Lagash, Babylon, Brosippa,…etc. Unfortunately these centers were not saved, they are destroyed, then covered with a thick layer of silty soil material, transported by the rivers and accumulated on the old land during flood and irrigation. The ancient land surface can be noticed at a depth of a few meters in much soil profile. Moreover, many archaeological studies were carried out to detect the ancient Arabian Gulf shore line based on the ancient civilization centers such as Assyrian documents.
Geochemical studies were achieved to differentiate between hills of ancient civilization and those of natural origin depending on the concentration of organic matter, the arid nature of Iraq make a sound objection against such studies. On the other hand, based on the geophysical contrast between the ancient walls and the recent surrounding materials, gravity and magnetic geophysical methods were also conducted on many ruins giving a fruitfully results. These studies are still spar and limited, so this article is a call for further studies to save our culture and the old Humanitarian History.
