The Age Of The Mauddud Formation

Abstract

The age of the Mauddud Limestone Formation revised and amended to be Late Albian-Early Cenomanian on the account of the presence of groups of fossils of a short stratigraphic range after careful analysis of the flora and fauna present in the studied samples and comparison with other pats of the world. These guide fossils are:- Orbitolina cf. concava (LAMARCK), Orbitolina cf. discoidia GRASS, Orbitolina concava sefini HENSON, Orbitolina kurdica HENSON, Iraqia simplex HENSON, Favusella washitensis (CARSEY), Nezzazata simplex OMARA, Ovalveolina ovum d'ORBIGNY, Permocalculus irenae ELLIOT, Marinella yugoslavica MASLOV, Boueina cf. pygmea  PIA, Neomeris cretacea STEINMAN, Neomeris  pfenderae KONISHI & EPIS and Lithophyllum shebae ELLIOT.
