Geotechnical properties of Holocene Sediments
The southern part of Mesopotamian plain is covered by
Holocene sediments of fluvial origin. In general, eight
lithological layers could be distinguished in that area (Table
below), distributed from the north (Al-Qurna) to south (Al-Fao)
(Figure below). Their geotechnical properties of these layers
vary according to many factors such as the texture, ground
water, dryness, carbonate content, gypsum content and clay
minerals types.
